One thing, and haven't found the answer on their website yet, but they give you free updates for one year: what's the renewal price? Anyone know?

As far as I know, The license key is valid for 6.x.x and not limited to year etc. Still you can email their support and they will answer it , probably the same as I said.

Installed IDM yesterday but not had a chance to use it yet.

i asked the same thing and there response is:-

For 15 years while we sell IDM, we never charged for updates. But we plan to
do this in the future. In any case it will consider only updates from one
major version to another. For example form version 6 to 7. All security
updates in one major version will always be free. And license will be
lifetime.

Looking at the reply it is evident that IDM guys were frustrated on the charges part, such that they r forced to charge for all those who want to pay to get an update...

Used tonight and like jelson said in post above very fast downloading.
