Sam this occured at late night during 1.00am, so your avira was not connected to the net so did not receive the update. Within half an hour they fixed it and released a new update deleting the old one. So your safe. It would have affected those who were online at that time.
If the Start Windows Restart when Windows starts check box is checked Windows Restart will start automatically every time Windows is started

Anyway Avira for me is far better than that mcafee
