A latest definition update error has led to detect avira as a virus itself. It detects avira as a spyware.

This is just a minor one..remember the Avast fiasco when a so-called employee had released an update without checking(as Vlk stated) that sent users haywire. Oh well :)

Me too. Its loosing its professional touch. After that ask toolbar thing i lost faith in Avira.
I never faced any issue, even though my Avira IS is constantly updating in the background. I wish they'll maintain quality until my free license expire :p

Yup! Good that Avira has detected faulty update before damage is done. That's the difference between Aviras and Mcafees...
Sam this occured at late night during 1.00am, so your avira was not connected to the net so did not receive the update. Within half an hour they fixed it and released a new update deleting the old one. So your safe. It would have affected those who were online at that time.
Frankly, Avira could do better by learning from their competitors and rivals.
