Nice one ash.. currently using the latest Swype beta and been really happy wiht that.. tried the SwiftX one and wasnt to thriled with it.. wondering if I should trt this out. Zug well i went ahead and DL'd it to test it out.. so far I am impressed.. seems to work really well and pretty good accuracy.. gonna stick with it for a bit and see :) i'd say i would recommend it .. specially while it is free

I am using Android GB Keyboard, SwiftkeyX, Swype and Touchpal.

Touchpal is very similar to swype but for the layout.

TP has a dedicated Number/Smiley button, Prediction on/off button and I find the edit button in the top row very useful

Installed touchpad keyboard and its great. Best for me compared to all the keyboards I have ever used including Swype.

Also, Installed touchpad dialer and loving it too. Its great.

Hopefully it ends my quest of finding a good dialer. Before this I have tried many but was unable to stick to any of them.

I tried Go Contacts, Dialer2, Dialer One.

Touchpal Dialer wins hands down

Yeah.. after testing it out the edit button was really nice.. the smiley button is nice as well.. will keep testing it.. but this and the newest swype beta so far my 2 fav.. might look at the dialer.. but so far one on my rom (using Aura on my Atrix) is working fine.. dunno what hte T9 thing is really ;P ohh.. and my dialer is themed for mine as well.. so nother reason to keep it :P

Everyone should try the dialer too as it includes a inbuilt Blocker App along with better contacts management.

T9 is Text on 9 keys. You may find it on older phones. Number 2 on the keypad has ABC. if you want to type C you have to tap it thrice. (I hate this format ...lol)

But with other dialers when I pressed 2 it would go to a contact whose phone number had 2 in it. (that's really weird. I can't memorize hundreds of numbers now can I ? )

That's why i chose TP. Pressing 2 will take me to the names starting with A, and 4 with G and so on. Easy for me. yay \\o//

Well, when you press 2 it searches your phone contacts with all three letters on 2 i.e. A, B and C and it applies to each button. So its great.

But it didn't list them alphabetically. it confused me too much.
Why make the most basic thing on a phone the most compicated one?

Its bcoz it searches your contacts using all the combination and permutation of letters that are on keys you type. So if you type 2,3 and 4... it will search with A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I and all its combinations which matches with anything from your contacts list and not necessarily from start but even from within names in between.

the v5 is a "chinese" made version that has updates that 4.8 doesnt have .. it is supposed to be more accurate, support themese, and a few more things.. those are the 2 that most are happy about.. backing up mine and DLd the v5 to try it out :)

Apparently v4.8 wasn't released in China. They released v5 for them.

A cool feature of Touchpal v5 is: Tilt to change the keypad. (from qwerty, cootek plus, or t9) :)

Btw you can download 12 themes for v5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17546868&postcount=13

yeap.. you can also download those themese from the app.. jsut go in to the appearances and select Skins.. then you will see you only have 1, there is a option up top to select more skins, and it takes you to the site where all 12 of those are and you can click the green box (since site is in chinese) and it DLs the skin you want as the apk and jus install from there.. otherwise, unzip that 7z from above and transfer over all 12 and do it that way. either way works :) but yeh.. this v5 still does have more features than our new 4.8

:ohwell: they don't update it everyday. v5 is a Chinese version which also supports English. I am using it coz it looks better than 4.8

New features in v5: (what I have observed)

1. Keyboard Skins
2. Tilt to change keyboard layout (select layout in settings)
3. Has numbers, symbols in the same keys as the letters.
4. Pencil button in the top row has editing options + arrow keys

with ver5 you can also opt to have that toolbar or not that they put in.. i believe 4.8 you cant remove it just yet.

Touchpal Curve isn't working for me.

I am on CM 7.1.

Tested v5 hotfix, didn't work. Uninstalled, reinstalled, now it can't connect to the server to download the Qwerty pack to work :Cry:

Update:

Installed Touchpal 4.8, works fine. Also tried downloading Qwertz pack , (Qwerty comes pre-installed), it connects to the server without any problem.

Tried again this morning, downloaded the Qwerty add on for v5. Tried changing Keyboard layout and reverted to the default one, it also updated the dictionary.
Perhaps that was the issue, oh well everything works fine now :)

hehe.. well im on Atrix so CM is only beta still .. dont think I have 7.1 yet... wife is using 7.1 but i didn't install touchpal for her yet.. will have to see if she wants that or not.. see if she has an issue "if" she dl's it and let you know but for my beta, v5 works fine

I am guessing they were either updating the Curve addon or their server went down, can't have been an outage coz 4.8 was able to download it fine.

I really like v5, its much cooler :cool:
