    Instead of applying the service pack, I wiped the old win 7 install and used the new ISO with integrated service pack to install a fresh OS.

    You mean Win 7 with SP1 integrated???? I don't think MS has released anything like that yet.

    You can get that from technet if you have an account over there

    Or you can use RT Se7en Lite to slipstream SP1
