@Grr Yup, no OS can guarantee lifetime updates. Now that Windows 8 is just around the corner, Win 7 will take a backseat

Actually, Microsoft will stop spending their time in providing updates and support for certain OS in a few years after they have released a newer OS, so indeed there is no such a thing like lifetime updates for Windows. I don't know if the same goes for Office, though.
