Will try some of those suggestions but some of the threads are inconclusive abt the error

I think you have virus issues. Because, when you rename the drive, it should rename.

Scanned all drives with ESET Smart security and MBAM updated with latest definitions, shows nothing is infected

But something is reverting those changes back. Have you tried re-installing OS?

That's currently not an option, will take me days to get back the PC in orginal config with all the tweaks and install all necessary apps

Also, can you tell us what services are started on startup? You can do that by using Running msconfig command.

It's easy.

1. rearrange the logical partition size for C, D, F, taking space from E.
2. move the data from E to AC/D/F
3. format E:
4. delete the partition for E
5. create the partition for E
6. Format E again, and better change the type to NTFS
7. Check the label
