Question Input required for buying a printer

    Hello Fellas,

As I need to start my prep for GMAT, it's time to print materials.

So finally I thought to buy a printer.

I only need to print B/W, nothing color.
To print around 5000+ pages, should print on both sides.

Looking for cheapest available printer which would fit my needs & pocket.

    Appreciate your suggestions.

    Thanks,
    Lovely Lion

I would recommend a Laserjet Printer for you.

Both of my printers are quite old, atleast 5 or 6 years old, and they can print upto 3000 pages per Toner (cartridge).
Nowadays you can get a Printer which can print over 5000 pages.

Avoid Inkjet or Deskjet printers as their printing capacity is very low when compared to Laserjets.
Try to get a Laserjet Printer without all-in-one functions, because my Printer Dealer told me that if one component gets screwed, it affects the entire machine.
But I am not sure about this, as most of the latest Printers come with a scanner and are termed "All-in-one:

HP is the best when it comes to printers. You can get a decent Laserjet for around 10K INR.

Take a look at these to get an idea of the quality:
    Inkjet (1000 pages)

    and

    Laserjet (8000 pages)

Thanks Ash, yes given the number of pages Laser one would be cost effective.

    the 1 above shows
    Duplex Print: Manual

and also cost is over 10,000.

How abt anything much cheaper than this?

I think the HP Laserjet series starts from 7000 or 7500 INR. Obviously, there will be some minor differences in the functions. Perhaps the cheaper one will not come with a scanner. Look for ads in newspapers, you can find some good offers from HP.

B/w printing is Rs. 0.50 per page here. That would cost you around Rs. 2500. If you don't need the printer for any other purpose then try searching for a cheap place where they print at this rate.
